Tascam 2488 Review

The Tascam 2488 is one of the most popular and maybe the best digital recorder for the money you pay.

Some of the main features of the 2488

  • 24 Tracks
  • Record simultaneously up to 8 tracks
  • Play back 24 tracks simultaneously
  • Can store 250 virtual tracks
  • Records at 44.1kHz, 16 or 24 bit resolution
  • 8 input channels
  • 4 XLR mic inputs with phantom power
  • High impedance inputs for guitarInsert effects and loop effects
  • CD-RW drive
  • USB connector
  • Midi synchronization

As you can see it is very impressive.

The manual is well written and easy to understand which makes the 2488 very easy to use.

It has 24 tracks which will help reduce bouncing tracks down plus you can record on 8 tracks at the same time so you could record an 8 instrument band playing together.

The transport controls are easy to use and just like you would expect to find on and tape recorder and the mixer fader controls are just as easy to use. I much prefer this type of control over what you get with computer software programs like Cubase or sonar.

The only down side is there isn't a drum machine included in the 2488neo. But I do prefer the dedicate drum machine or software drum programs.

The Review

Overview/Description:

Record guitar, vocals, piano or any other instrument or several instruments at the same time then add effects, mix and master, burn onto CD and/or transfer to your computer using the usb port. Very easy to do with this unit.

Quality:

High quality just like you would expect from Tascam. They were one of the first to make portable recorders. Very durable so can be used for live recordings.

Sound of the equipment:

This is a high quality recorder with very good effects. Studio quality sound so you will create studio quality recordings.

Ease of Use of product:

The neo is very easy to use and the manual is very well written and easy to understand.

Value:

There isn't many units that compare in quality and value to this unit although you should look at the Boss BR1200 and Korg D3200 before you part with your money. They both have drum machines included in the unit.

Support from manufacture:

None needed so far.

Overall Rating:

I would rate the Tascam 2488 very high and only let down for lack of drum machine.

So overall, if you are looking for a unit to record multiple instruments at the same time or one at a time and you don't need a drum machine, then, the neo is the one to go for.
